Privacy in the digital world of dreams

When someone entrusts their dreams to a digital tool, they are sharing material from the deepest and most vulnerable layer of their inner life. We built Somniary with that weight in mind.

⊘ Safety through forgetting

The free interpreter is stateless by design. When you write a dream and receive an interpretation, the entire exchange happens in volatile memory, in RAM, not on disk. Once the session ends, the data disappears. Nothing is written down, no profile is assembled from your night images.

This is a deliberate decision, not a technical limitation. We believe the safest way to handle intimate psychological material is to not store it unless you ask us to. On the free tier your dream lives in the moment of interpretation, and then it belongs only to you again.

What this means in practice: On the free tier, if you close your browser tab, your dream and interpretation are gone from our systems entirely, we cannot retrieve them even if you ask.

The paid plans add one deliberate exception, fully under your control: a private journal you opt into, dream by dream. When you choose to save a dream, it is stored encrypted at rest (AES-GCM) so your timeline and monthly letter can be built, and you can export or delete any entry, or your whole account, at any time. This is encryption with a key we hold, not end-to-end, so we can generate your letter; no human at Somniary reads your dreams, and we never turn them into a dataset. Full detail is in our privacy policy.

Your dreams are not raw material for algorithms

The AI that powers Somniary's interpretations, Claude, built by Anthropic, does not use your dream text for training. Your conversations are not fed back into any machine learning pipeline. They do not become part of a dataset. They are not anonymized and aggregated. On the free tier they are processed once, returned to you, and then they cease to exist in our infrastructure; on the paid plans only the dreams you choose to save are kept, encrypted and under your control.

We do not build behavioral profiles from your dreams. We do not use dream content for marketing targeting. We do not sell, share, or license any user data to third parties. Your unconscious material is not a product.

Protection at every step

Every connection to Somniary is encrypted using HTTPS with TLS 1.3. Your dream text travels from your device to our server through an encrypted tunnel, unreadable to anyone who might intercept it. The API connection between our server and the AI model is similarly encrypted.

No accounts harvested

The free tier requires no registration, no email, and no account. The only thing we handle is your IP address, held briefly to enforce the daily limit and prevent abuse, never tied to your dreams. You arrive, you dream, you leave.

No dark patterns

No push notifications. No gamification. No streaks. No social sharing prompts. No engagement tricks designed to make you dependent on the product.

Consent-based analytics

We use a minimal Google Analytics setup with Google Consent Mode, so nothing is measured until you agree in the cookie bar. We do not use social media trackers or cross-site retargeting. If we run our own ads, we measure only their performance, and only with your consent.

EU-based operation

Somniary is operated from Prague, Czech Republic, within the European Union. We are subject to GDPR and treat its principles as a minimum standard, not a ceiling.

Ethical principles

Dream interpretation sits at a sensitive intersection of psychology, spirituality, and personal identity. We hold ourselves to a set of ethical commitments that go beyond legal requirements:

Somniary is not therapy. We are explicit about this in our interface and our content. AI-powered dream interpretation is a tool for self-reflection, not a substitute for professional psychological support. If a dream surfaces material that feels overwhelming, we encourage users to seek a qualified therapist or analyst.

We do not pathologize. Somniary's interpretations are designed to open reflection, not to diagnose. We never label dream content as symptomatic of a disorder, and we never generate alarming conclusions about a dreamer's mental state.

We respect the mystery. Not every dream needs to be decoded. Some dreams are best left to sit with you without explanation. Our tool offers interpretation as an invitation, never as a verdict.

Looking ahead

We are exploring a local-only mode that would process dreams entirely on your device, with no data leaving your phone or computer at all. This is a technical challenge that current AI infrastructure makes difficult, but it represents our long-term aspiration: a dream tool that requires no trust in any external server, because nothing ever leaves your hands.

Until then, our commitment remains what it has always been: your dreams are yours. We are temporary guests in the space between sleeping and waking, and we keep as little as we can.

Your unconscious is sacred territory

We built Somniary to be a quiet, trustworthy space, a place where you can bring whatever your night produced, without wondering who else might be reading it.
